"La Ikraha - No Compulsion": International Conferences on Religious Violence and Religious Freedom
In partnership with the Barnabas Fund and the committee of Muslim Scholars on religious violence, two international Christian and Muslim Councils have been established of the most senior Muslim and Christian academics and clergy, convened by Sheikh Professor Mohamed Elsharkawy and Professor Patrick Sookdheo. The Christian Muslim Council held its first conference in Cairo from 22 to 28 March 2012 on religious violence and in support of reciprocal rights of religious freedom in both Christian-majority and Muslim-majority countries, discussing Islamic religious law in this area. The second joint Christian Muslim Council will take place in Hamburg in the first week of May, with a high level Christian Muslim Council on religious violence to take place in Washington, DC from 21 to 22 May 2012, at which a major research document and Christian-Muslim declaration on these issues will be published. Devotional Reading: Interfaith Lectio Divina
Since 2008, the Christian Muslim Council (formerly Catholic Islamic Conference) has pioneered the regular monthly practice of interfaith lectio divina or praying through the sacred scriptures of Christianity, Islam and Judaism. Through our monthly meetings, collaboration with leader practitioners from other contemplative prayer groups including the Fellowship of Contemplative Prayer and Contemplative Outreach, and annual contributions to Inter Faith Week we have built prayerful relationships across faiths. Our regular meetings are held at the Congregation of Jesus Community in Hampstead. For details, please contact the Convener, Thomas Bonneville via enquiries [at] christianmuslimcouncil.org

Scripture and Music
The Christian Muslim Council is proud to launch its project on the heavenly arts of recitation of the Holy Scriptures - Islamic Quranic recitation, Christian a cappella choral singing of psalms and Jewish chazanut cantorial recitation - which brings together cantors and instrumentalists of different faiths in the beautification of God's Word. Please contact the Project Coordinators, Mike Brooks and Muhammad Al-Hussaini via enquiries [at] christianmuslimcouncil.org
